What makes Saffron Unique?

Saffron is nicknamed “Red Gold” and “The Sunshine Spice” due to it being the most expensive and sought after spice in the world. This spice is worth more per ounce than ACTUAL gold. People have consumed saffron to enhance their mood, boost their libido and even improve their memory! This spice contains a variety of plant compounds that act as antioxidants, the most notable of these compounds include:

  • Crocin and Crocetin - both are powerful antioxidants have been shown to be effective in the prevention and/or treatment of several diseases including cancer, progressive brain damage, and other chronic diseases

  • Safranal - Safranal gives saffron (and in turn Zaphi Water!) its distinct floral and fresh taste. This property also has the ability to improve your mood, memory and learning ability as well as protect your brain against oxidative stress!

Where does Saffron Come from?

Saffron is grown in multiple parts of the world, with grades significantly differing by region. The saffron used in Zaphi Water is one of the worlds finest — Persian saffron.

Saffron is categorized based on quality and strength. These attributes are based off of distinguishing factors such as the age of the Crocus flower, ratio and styles of the stigmas, and of course, the actual geographic origin of where it is cultivated. Saffron is found primarily in Spain, India, Greece and most popularly produced in northern Iran, where it has the best opportunity to thrive in the region’s dry climate. Today, there are more than 300 tons of saffron collected annually with Iran making up 95% of the world’s total production. Locals know of the intricate cultivation process that has been passed down for decades. The eminent crop protection (meaning no pesticides, chemicals, or GMOs) and harvesting process makes saffron the best, most expensive and most exquisite spice in the world.
